Breakthrough: Release Ready

Get Release Ready with Sonic Futures

Release Your Music with Expert-Led Strategy and Support

Breakthrough is a bespoke programme guiding artists through a process of releasing music through the right channels with a promotion strategy and mentoring, and ensuring that all the correct registrations are in place so you can make money.

Who this programme is for

Designed for artists and bands based in Tees Valley (18years+)  with recorded music that is ready to release, or soon-to-be recorded music ready for release.

About The Programme

This artist mentorship programme provides 12 hours of 1:1 mentoring over a 6-month period.

As an artist in this programme, you’ll be matched with a mentor who specialises in designing and delivering successful release campaigns in your genre and area of the music industry. Whether your approach is DIY or commercial, and whether your audience is rooted in rap, rock, electronic or beyond, our mentor team has the expertise to help you plan and execute an effective release strategy.

This bespoke support can cover key areas such as staying visible on social media, grant applications, and budgeting. Artists will receive expert guidance where appropriate on building album campaigns, PR, touring, manufacturing, pitching to DSPs and media, and refining retail and D2C strategies. With tailored mentoring, the programme equips artists with the tools and strategies needed to maximise their visibility and success in the music industry

Mentors

Our mentors include experienced artists and label managers such as Chelsea Wood, Andrew Archer and Henry Carden, as well as artists who have successfully managed their own release campaigns, including Amelia Coburn, Grace Stubbings, Dennis Jr. and Joe and Jordan Bell.

Applications will be open on a rolling basis – when a mentor has capacity, we will pair them with a new artist whose release campaign and genre align with an available mentor.

Amelia Coburn

Artist

Amelia Coburn has a knack for making the unusual sound timeless. Her honest, occasionally hilarious and quintessentially north-eastern persona disarms and beguiles in equal measure.

Drawing inspiration from gothic literature and the shadowy allure of film noir, there is a darkness at the heart of many of her songs, populated by vivid characters and nocturnal creatures that inhabit the liminal space “between the moon and the milkman”.

2024’s Bill Ryder-Jones produced debut album gained a cult following, including praise from British music legends Paul Weller and Paul Heaton – as well as national radio play across BBC Radios 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Hailed as “one to watch in 2025” by Louder Than War and Drowned In Sound, Amelia hit the ground running with spellbinding sets at SXSW in Texas and a feature on Paul Weller’s latest album ‘Find El Dorado’.

Audiences continued to grow thanks to enchanting support slots with the likes of The Levellers, Rianne Downey, Hamish Hawk, Stornoway, Rumer and Katherine Priddy – not to mention her own headline UK tour and mesmerising sets at some of the UK’s best loved boutique festivals.

Supported by PRS Foundation’s Open Fund and inspired by the feminist works of writers like Angela Carter and Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Coburn’s latest single ‘Something. Wild’ continues to solidify Coburn’s burgeoning reputation.
